We are absolutely delighted to announce that Sabrestorm Stories will be publishing a special 25th anniversary edition of Jump Derry this April.
First published 25 years ago, Jump Derry was Christine Donovan’s debut novel and went on to win the 2011 International Rubery Book Award. It is a bold, tender and deeply human story set against the backdrop of Easter 2005, exploring first love, family fracture, memory and the legacy of the Troubles. Through Janie’s coming-of-age story and her mother Marianne’s struggle with the past, the novel captures the fragile courage it takes to move forward when life feels uncertain.
Reissuing this remarkable debut feels both timely and important. Jump Derry speaks powerfully to new generations of readers while retaining the emotional resonance that first earned it critical acclaim. We are proud to help bring this story back into print and back into readers’ hands.
Even more excitingly, this April also marks a special moment for Christine Donovan’s body of work. With the forthcoming publication of her new novel, Deriveville, readers will now be able to discover — or rediscover — both of her novels side by side.
If Jump Derry is about navigating obstacles in a city shaped by history, Deriveville (published in March) explores the restless energy of 1980s Paris and the radical ideas of the Situationist movement. Together, the two novels showcase Christine’s distinctive voice: thoughtful, searching and unafraid to ask how we live, love and move through the spaces around us.
We could not be more pleased to have both Jump Derry and Deriveville available through Sabrestorm Stories. April promises to be an exciting month — and we look forward to welcoming readers, old and new, into Christine Donovan’s unforgettable worlds.
